What we do
Breaking Barriers
What happens after the shelter program is over?
Our advocates work through our resources to find supportive housing and resources to help rebuild your life and stability.
I don’t want my family or friends to know, but I feel so alone.
Our advocates and support team understand your situation. Let us help you—without judgment, blame, or embarrassment.
I’m in a motel. Will DCF take my kids?
Living in a motel is not a reason for DCF to remove kids. Kids are victims too. We provide a safe place for the whole family. You all need to heal.
I don’t have the money to find housing.
Affordable housing is a very real problem for many people. Our advocates will help you locate the programs and resources available in your community.
I need childcare so I can work.
Finding quality childcare is the goal of any parent. Our team of advocates will help you find programs to support your family’s needs.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
Success Stories
I had to get out! We were always walking on eggshells!
He only drank on the weekends cause he was stressed out. But he was a mean drunk. I got slapped around. He broke electronics, punched holes in walls, accused me and the kids of stealing his things. My kids were always anxious and afraid to go to sleep. I had to get out! So I checked into a hotel. But the money ran out fast. Miss Nell’s Haven helped me qualify for a housing program and get back on my feet. It’s not easy, but now the kids and I are so happy! And Miss Nell’s Haven is still there for me. They are my rock! —Tonya
I was a new mom. I was too ashamed to tell anyone my Boyfriend was abusive.
After the baby, the body shaming, verbal attacks, insults were bad enough. But when it turned into physical violence, I couldn’t take it. I stayed in a shelter for 120 days, but my time was up. I signed up for a housing voucher, but the waiting list was over a year long. I had nowhere to go. Miss Nell’s Haven helped me find housing. You never know how strong you are until you decide that you have to be. —Sharon
